Support Questions

  I registered for a new account but never received a validation code via email.
  I logged in, but now when I go to a different page it tells me I'm not logged in.
  When I try to log in, I get an error message saying "Incorrect Password or Account Purged"
  The Bear Messenger doesn't have a chat window, just a grey box with a red X.
  How do I change my profile or add a photo to it?
  When I try to add, change or delete my photo, nothing changes in my profile.

I registered for a new account but never received a validation code via email.
  If you are an AOL or even hotmail user, the confirmation email may have been blocked, delayed, or filed in your SPAM folder. AOL users may need to wait up to 24 hours to receive the confirmation email. If you are not an AOL user or you are an AOL user and have waited, but the validation code has not been sent, please send an email to confirm@bearmen.com from your registration email address and we will confirm your account for you. By sending the email from the address you registered with you will be confirming that it is indeed valid. You will receive a notice from us once your account is active and ready.
I logged in, but now when I go to a different page it tells me I'm not logged in.
  This symptom is typically experienced when 'cookies' are not enabled in your browser or are blocked by antivirus or firewall filtering software. 'Cookie' are small files stored on your pc that stores your account information and your login status. When cookies are blocked or disabled, you will be able to log in but if you click on any of the bearmen.com links you will be told that you are not logged in. To resolve this problem, you'll need to make sure that you have cookies enabled in your browser and that you are not blocking cookies in any personal firewall or virus protection software you may have on your PC.
When I try to log in, I get an error message saying "Incorrect Password or Account Purged"
  If you are receiving this error message, then the systesm believes that either the password you entered is incorrect or your account was not confirmed and therefore does not exist in the database.

1.Please verify that you are using the correct password. You can verify your password by clicking on the 'Lost Password' link under the login window, for which you will need the email address you registered with.
2. If you did not click on the link in the confirmation email you received, then you will need to do so before logging in.
3. If you did not receive a confirmation email, then please click on the 'I registered for a new account but never received a confirmation email.' question on the help page.
4. If none of these options helps, then the Bearmen.com cookie on your PC may have becomne corrupted, supplying the website with the wrong login credentials. To fix this, visit http://www.bearmen.com/cleancookie.php - this should delete the login information stored on your PC. Next, attempt to log in again.
5. Finally, if this still doesn't work, contact support@bearmen.com and please provide the browser type and version you are using as well as your username and O/S (XP, Mac, etc)
The Bear Messenger doesn't have a chat window, just a grey box with a red X.
  If you're seeing a grey box at the bottom of the bear messenger, it means that you don't have java script or the java runtime software installed on your PC. Internet Explorer 6 and other browsers used to come with java already installed, but recent versions require you to install java from Sun Microsystems (Microsoft lost a legal battle to provide java). This is not a change in bearmen.com, but may be caused by any upgrades you've performed to your browser (older versions included java).

To install it yourself, download it from http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html

If you are using AOL's browser, you may need to use Internet Explorer, Netscape, or another browser instead.

If you don't see the Bear Messenger at all, then you can launch it from the button provided at the top of the 'Home' page.
How do I change my profile or add a photo to it?
  To create a profile:
1. Open your profile for editing by selecting 'Profiles' and then 'My Profile' from the menu
2. Enter your information in the fields provided, updating any information that needs to be changed.
3. For photos- Where you see the 'No Photo' graphics, click on the 'Browse' button and select a picture from your local drive. You can do this for all 4 photo locations within the profile. Please note that only the left hand photo will appear on the index of profiles.
4. Click on the 'Update My Profile' button at the bottom of the profile page to upload any photos and change your profile.
When I try to add, change or delete my photo, nothing changes in my profile.
  Clicking on 'Refresh' or 'Reload' in your browser will usually solve the problem and show you the correctly updated profile. In other cases, AOL or other service providers may be caching the web page for you and therefore showing you your old profile. To see the updated page, try reloading the web page and if that doesn't work - close and re-open your browser.
I received a notice that I have messages, but when I check there is nothing in my InBox.
  In most cases, the messages do exist but they have either been removed from the system or are not accessible by the member. If this happens, please email support@bearmen.com and let us know your username, what browser you are using, what O/S you use, and any other details that might help us narrow down the problem.
How do I search for profiles near me?
  Now, you can search for members near you and view their profiles. Currently this is only available for members living in the United States, but we will soon be expanding to other countries around the world. To find member profiles near you, click on Profiles from main menu. Then, from the search options at the top of the profiles page enter your zipcode and select a distance in miles. The profile search will return a list of all profiles within the radius specified.
How do I add an event to the events page?
  Our events page is constantly updated by our members, allowing us to find out about events that are happening all over the world. To add your own event, Select 'Events' and then 'Add Event' from the menu. Use the prompts and fields provided to enter all the information you have for the event. Make sure to include an image or graphic to be displayed along with the event description. Also, make sure to note whether this is an annual event or weekly event. The member that submits the event will be able to edit or delete the event at any time.
